At this year’s World Economic Forum, Sir Tim Berners-Lee — inventor of the web and founder of the Web Foundation — spoke to the Economist about why we’re working to connect the 50% of the world still offline. He warned against the danger that a persistent digital divide could make the web another driver of inequality. To ensure that the web instead becomes a tool in the fight for global equality, we need to make internet access affordable for everyone.

 

That’s why A4AI is asking governments to commit to a new “1 for 2” affordability target that will enable millions more people around the world to access the web’s benefits.
