Intel will be hosting its Africa Broadband and USF Leaders Forum in Cape Town, South Africa June 24-27. A4AI Executive Director Sonia Jorge and Policy Manager Kojo Boakye will be providing an update on A4AI’s progress and moderating an open discussion on June 27.
The Forum aims to engage key leaders of ICT, Broadband, and Universal Service and Access Funds (USAFs) and Telecom regulators to help share experiences, challenges and ideas, and to contribute to the process of capacity building and knowledge sharing on Broadband and USAFs throughout the region. This Africa session, the ninth in a series of Global Broadband and USF Session Forums, and has been created to share the latest issues and best practices in accelerating Broadband and ICT adoption, including through the deployment of USFs and other mechanisms for broadband adoption, with a focus on demand creation to move from paper to programs.
The focus of this session is to move from planning, to real programs, that will create demand and usage to realize the socio-economic benefits that Broadband can provide. These sessions will focus on developing National Broadband Planning, Financial strategies for funding, defining relevant programs, and will touch upon future concerns on privacy and security.
