After three years as Honorary Chair of A4AI, Dr Omobola Johnson will be leaving this role at the end of October 2018, at which point she will fully assume a new role on the Web Foundation Board of Directors. Omobola will continue to fulfill her role as A4AI Honorary Chair until that time, and will assist in the process to select a new Chair, to be announced later this year.
Commenting on her time at A4AI, Omobola said:
“It has been a pleasure to work with A4AI since its inception and I am proud of what it has accomplished in its first five years. I look forward to continuing to advocate for its mission on the board of the Web Foundation.“
As the second Honorary Chair of A4AI — a role she assumed on September 1, 2015 — Omobola has provided invaluable policy guidance and has led high-level advocacy efforts to drive down the cost of internet. In that time, both A4AI’s membership and its international profile have grown, and the Alliance has achieved important policy victories, including the adoption of the ‘1 for 2’ affordability target by Nigeria, Ghana, ECOWAS and the UN Broadband Commission. As Sonia Jorge, A4AI’s Executive Director, noted:
“Omobola’s leadership and support has been instrumental to the growth of A4AI as a key and trusted player in the ICT policy space. She has helped our team build a strong foundation to successfully advocate for good practices to be embraced and implemented by key stakeholders across the Global South.”
We hope you’ll join us in thanking Omobola for the outstanding leadership she has provided A4AI over the past three years, and in congratulating her on her new role. We know that Omobola will continue to advocate for A4AI’s mission and work both as Senior Partner at TLcom Capital LLP, as well as in her new capacity on the Web Foundation board. We look forward to continuing our work together to advance affordable internet access for all.
